Luxury Design Hotel
The only villa hotel in the French capital, Saint James occupies a palatial resort setting once home to a famous airfield where a former-French First Lady built a landmark palace in honor of her late-husband. Acquired by the Bertrand family and refurbished by Bambi Sloan, today Saint James is an exquisite urban retreat home to a member's club and 48-room hotel of intricate design detail and style. Walking distance to the Avenue Victor Hugo and Arc de Triomphe, the villa lies in one of the city's top residential enclaves with grand entrance courtyard flanked by a jetting fountain and staff of footmen.
Inside, a grand lobby with regency fireplace rests in front of a double staircase with walls of ethereal balloon prints and ceiling of crystal chandeliers. A formal restaurant lined in rich wood paneling bids a magical summer garden terrace with modern gastronomic menu orchestrated by female chef Virginie Basselot. Further villa amenities include a boutique spa and lively lounge bar with gentile English library design that's available for membership.
The Room
Larger than it first appears, the hotel is composed of 48 rooms and suites of dream-like fantasy that feature individual design that ranges from all-red walls to purplish toile patterns. Inspired by René Magritte and Madeleine Castaing, no idea was deemed to out there for billowing curtains and colorful accessories tossed on velvet-covered settees and more modern upholstered club chairs. Those looking for the best rooms in the house find two freestanding pavilions on the perimeter of the property with multi-story living spaces ideal for larger parties and celebrity guests.
